In 1911 George acquired The Stores in Kelsale and the business was transferred on 15 th March.


Shop managers were Joe Rouse, Billy Potter and Sid Lawes. The business was leased to Mr Lawes in the 1970s. He and his wife had worked in various roles in the shop from 1946 until they had to close in 1991 when Mr Lawes was 71 and wishing to retire. It had housed the Post Office and became a Spar branch at some point. It is now a private house.

In 1913 a shop in Peasenhall became available and the business including fixtures and fittings was transferred from Mrs Charlotte Crapnell on 7 th April. Known as ‘Peasenhall Cash Stores’ it handled Drapery, China and Glass, Hardware and Grocery.


In the 1930s and onwards the Peasenhall shop managers included William Stone, Bert
Pepper and his wife Mabel and Ken Porter. The shop was sold in the early 1970s and
bought by Brian Whincop, proprietor of ‘Whincops of Peasenhall’. His wife Peggy ran
the shop for a while, selling mainly frozen foods. The art gallery business was
established around 1972. It is now a privately-owned dwelling and business.

At some point a shop in Middleton was purchased; Bert Closman was manager. Originally a house called Morden Villa, the shop was closed in the 1970s and is now a private house once more.
